Xiaomi has officially launched into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the SU7, a sleek addition to the EV world that merges innovative technology with eye-catching design, first revealed in late 2023. The vehicle comes in two versions: a dual-motor all-wheel-drive SU7 Max and a single-motor RWD SU7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SU7 family employs Xiaomi\u2019s proprietary Modena Architecture and is powered by 21,000 rpm \u201cHyperEngine\u201d electric motors. The range-topping SU7 Max impresses with a range of up to 497 miles on a single charge and a breathtaking 0-60 mph acceleration time of 2.78 seconds, in line with competitors like the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan Turbo \u2014 thanks to its 101kWh 800V high-voltage platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xiaomi\u2019s focus for the SU7 isn\u2019t just performance but also design and comfort. It features a \u201cwater droplet\u201d headlamp design, a 360 LED halo rear brake light and subtly integrated door handles. Inside, the spacious cabin is equipped with a HyperOS in-car entertainment system, powered by Qualcomm\u2019s Snapdragon 8295 processor and includes a 16.1-inch 3K central screen, optional tablets, as well as 23 Dolby Atmos speakers. Autonomous driving capabilities are anchored by the Xiaomi Pilot platform, utilizing NVIDIA Drive Orin processors and a comprehensive sensor array.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development of the SU7 was spearheaded by BMW and Mercedes-Benz design veterans, including Tianyuan Li, James Qiu and Chris Bangle. This powerhouse team\u2019s influence is evident in each detail of the SU7\u2019s design and functionality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following its launch, the SU7 experienced an overwhelming demand, with 88,898 orders placed within the first 24 hours, indicating a successful market entry for Xiaomi. It\u2019s also worth noting that Xiaomi strategically priced the SU7 at \u00a5215,900 CNY or $29,900 USD, in what feels like an intentional undercut of the Tesla Model 3 price. The vehicles are being manufactured at Xiaomi\u2019s new Beijing plant, a collaboration with the state-owned Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. (BAIC), which boasts a phase one annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles \u2014 with deliveries to begin at the end of April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
