Proof that size is no barrier to adventure, Mitsubishi has stolen the spotlight at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon with its most compact expedition vehicle yet. As the centerpiece of the brand\u2019s \u201cDelica Festival\u201d exhibit, the Delica Mini Active Camper reimagines the beloved Japanese kei car as a rugged, one-of-a-kind home on wheels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the flagship Delica D5 is known for its imposing stature, the Mini version measures just 133.7 inches in length\u2014nearly five feet shorter than its full-sized sibling. To overcome these tiny dimensions, Mitsubishi\u2019s design team focused on vertical utility. The build features a roof-mounted pop-up tent that effectively doubles the living space, offering a snug sleeping area for two. The exterior is further fortified for the trail with a suite of ARB accessories, including a side-mounted awning, a high-intensity auxiliary light bar, and protective skid plates for underbody durability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Underneath the adorable facade lies genuine off-road capability. The Active Camper sits on a lifted suspension\u2014adding an extra inch of ground clearance\u2014and utilizes a specialized four-wheel drive system paired with aggressive all-terrain tires. Although this specific build is currently a one-off concept designed to celebrate the Delica\u2019s 58-year heritage, it serves as a powerful demonstration of the Mini\u2019s modular potential. For outdoor enthusiasts who value agility and efficiency, the Active Camper suggests that the smallest footprint can often lead to the biggest journeys, but it seems to be just a one-off production at the moment.
