The revival of the Ford Bronco has been an undeniable success. Ford sold 146,007 examples of the off-road SUV in 2025, a 34 percent rise over 2024 when it also eclipsed 100,000 sales. Capitalizing on the name, the smaller Bronco Sport crossover has also impressed, with over 124,000 sales per year for the last three years. Now, according to a report from Automotive News, Ford will attempt to expand the Bronco family even further with a new pickup truck variant.
The report is fairly light on details regarding this future Bronco-based pickup truck, but Automotive News says that it will arrive closer to the end of this decade. The truck will follow a Bronco hybrid in 2027, the publication claims. This Bronco hybrid would likely arrive for the 2028 model year, and could accompany a visual refresh for the boxy SUV.
A Ford spokesperson provided the following statement: “We are not going to comment on future product speculation, much of which is inaccurate. What we can say is Ford is focused on delivering a massive product renewal that will refresh 80% of our North American portfolio by volume by 2029. This includes the all-new Ford Fathom midsize pickup on the new Universal Electric Vehicle platform, alongside the next-generation F-150 and F-Series Super Duty.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of plans for a Bronco pickup, which had originally been expected to arrive in the first half of this decade. The Bronco pickup would join other Bronco variants at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, displacing the Ranger. Ford is expected to shift production of its mid-size truck to the Tennessee Truck Plant, at the site of what was supposed to be the BlueOval City campus that was originally meant to build a wave of new EVs. This shift would occur around 2029 for a next-generation mid-size truck.
Ford killed off the Transit Connect in the U.S. after the 2023 model year.
The Bronco isn’t the only nameplate that Ford is seeking to expand into a family of vehicles. The iconic Mustang has already spawned the controversially named Mustang Mach-E electric SUV, and now Ford is reportedly working on a four-door Mustang sedan that should arrive around 2030. This new sedan will coincide with the next-generation Mustang coupe, with a starting price under $40,000, and the possibility of a hybrid powertrain and a V-8 option.
The report from AN also says Ford is working on a smaller version of the Transit van. While Ford still sells the Transit Connect and other small vans in Europe, the compact van was discontinued in the U.S. after 2023, around the same time that Ram, Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan also abandoned the small-van market. Now, Ram is returning with a new 2027 ProMaster City, and Ford is reportedly interested in reintroducing its own challenger.
The van will reportedly be built at Ford’s Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio, starting in 2029. The van will offer gas and hybrid powertrains, and AN reports that its sources described the van as larger than the Transit Connect. Instead, it will be closer in size to the Transit Custom sold in Europe, which has a comparable wheelbase to the new ProMaster City.
