Mitsubishi has unveiled the D:X Concept1, a futuristic EV van inspired by the Delica, with a name that stands for \u201cdiscover and experience.\u201d The vehicle was first shown at this year\u2019s Japan Mobility Show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed with carbon neutrality and off-road readiness in mind, the automaker is labeling the D:X Concept1 as an MPV or Multi-Purpose Vehicle. Notable parallels to the Delica, a popular Mitsubishi off-road van of the 90s, include a spacious cabin, enhanced safety features and an adventure-ready design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mitsubishi D:X Concept1 is a manifestation of the \u201cMaximum Space and Safety for Humans, Maximum Off-Roader for Boundaryless Adventure\u201d design principle. It inherits all the best aspects of the Delica while introducing a sturdy body, large-diameter tires and skid plates to ensure excellent road performance even in challenging terrains. The Dynamic Shield front face design, coupled with projection laser lights in a distinctive T-shape, is designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal as well as provide better visibility on narrow or rough roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the interior, passengers will find luxury and convenience, with the D:X featuring a glamping-inspired copper body color and a roomy cabin with panoramic seats that adjust vertically and rotate, aiding in optimal positioning and facilitating in-cabin communication during breaks. The see-through hood extends the driver\u2019s field of vision, displaying crucial information like road surface conditions and front tire angles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a voice-interactive AI concierge to provide route, weather and other vital information, for an elevated driving experience. Also found in the cabin, thanks to a collaboration with Yamaha Corporation, is the integration of a new generation sound system, positioning numerous speakers throughout the cabin for an immersive audio experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of its performance is the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) system. The electric 4WD system, coupled with the S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control system, is designed to offer a safe, secure and comfortable ride under varying road conditions. The PHEV system offers an EV mode for daily use and a hybrid mode for long-distance travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of writing, the release date and expected retail price for the D:X Concept1 have not yet been shared by Mitsubishi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
