The Ferrari 296 GT Modificata, Ferrari\u2019s newest model, is the pickleball equivalent of the 296 world. It\u2019s not the full-fat tennis 296\u2014that designation falls to the 296 GT3 designed to compete in sanctioned GT3 races around the world. Nor is it the table tennis 296 either, since that title obviously belongs to the road-bound296 GTBand GTS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No. The 296 GT Modificata is the pickleball equivalent of the 296 lineup\u2014 or at least, sort of. You see, despite not sticking to the GT3 rulebook, the GT Modificata is a race car designed to be sold explicitly to someone who wants to drive a Ferrari race car on track and simply has no intention of lining it up for a race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without the weight of the GT3 rulebook holding it down, Ferrari has uncorked the GT Modificata. Power has increased to 720 horsepower\u2014up from around the 600 horsepower mark that the GT3 race car might have on any given race weekend, depending on how the organizer\u2019s balance-of-performance shakes out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with changes to the powertrain, the GT Modificata adds a second seat, allowing drivers to bring a friend or a coach along for the ride. Pickleball allows doubles too, though so does tennis. Rather than put this clearly tired metaphor to bed, we\u2019ll just tell you that the not-for-racing race car also gets new front brake discs and a pair of additional vents to cool them. Ferrari included a handful of aero changes to the setup as well, including a redesigned hood that allows more airflow to cool the more potent engine, a new front splitter, and a sizable rear wing to keep things in check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 296 isn\u2019t the first Ferrari to get the Modificata treatment, with the Le Mans-winning 499 Pundergoing a similar transformation back in 2023.
