Mercedes-Benz is honoring the work of Virgil Abloh on Project Maybach with a release of as short documentary that takes fans behind-the-scenes on creative process of the collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abloh worked closely with Gorden Wagener, chief design officer of Daimler AG. The video shows how the concept, which started out as a mere sketch, became an idea that flourished into a physical model that is now celebrated by engineers and designers across the globe. Under the guiding mind of Virgil Abloh, the German car brand developed an off-road Maybach, unlike anything of its kind. In the video, the late designer can be heard explaining, \u201cThe premise is to use two words to drive you to a new action. So utility and luxury are usually not used in the same sentence and the car we\u2019re developing can function as such.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The joint creation formed by two design greats brings forward a contemporary, yet functional concept that pushes the boundaries of automotive everywhere. In the short documentary, Wagener says, \u201cI think it\u2019s always great when two people have a different creative approach and different creative background. Virgil does a lot of stuff from fashion to art and so on so he has a different view. And I have a different angle too and it\u2019s very interesting to combine these two.\u201d The video ends with a touching tribute to Abloh\u2019s legacy with a statement that reads, \u201cWith care, consideration, and respect to his family and friends, we share this behind-the-scenes of the project Maybach. We are honored to have worked with a creative genius and to have been inspired by his ideas and his attitude.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
