Tesla has been hit with a new racial harassment lawsuit, with 15 Black former or current Tesla employees alleging they received racial abuse and harassment in the company\u2019s factories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports, the employees claim they were subjected to \u201coffensive racist comments and behavior by colleagues, managers and human resources employees on a regular basis\u201d \u2014 most of which took place at the Tesla factory in Fremont, California. Use of the n-word, \u201cslavery,\u201d \u201cplantation\u201d and sexual remarks such as \u201clikes booty\u201d were named in the suit and employees accused the company\u2019s standard operating procedures to \u201cinclude blatant, open and unmitigated race discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teri Mitchell, one of the plaintiffs, alleged that colleagues and managers used racial slurs and would say, \u201cIt is rare for Blacks to work here. I don\u2019t know how long you will be able to stay here.\u201d Meanwhile, plaintiff Nathaniel Aziel Gonsalves claimed that a supervisor said that \u201cGonsalves \u2018wasn\u2019t like most black people,\u2019 that he \u2018didn\u2019t act ghetto,\u2019 and further called him a \u2018zebra\u2019 because he was \u2018neither black nor white.\u2019\u201d Others in the suit added they were given \u201cthe most physically demanding posts in Tesla or passed over for promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tesla has yet to release a comment or statement on the lawsuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This legal battle adds to at least 10 racial discrimination or sexual harassment lawsuit against Tesla, one of which was filed by the department of Fair Employment and Housing earlier this year. The automaker responded, \u201cTesla has always disciplined and terminated employees who engage in misconduct, including those who use racial slurs or harass others in different ways.\u201d The post continued, \u201cWe recently rolled out an additional training program that reinforces Tesla\u2019s requirement that all employees must treat each other with respect and reminds employees about the numerous ways they can report concerns, including anonymously.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
