A race-worn helmet from Ayrton Senna<\/a>\u2019s legendary 1992 Formula 1<\/a> season has sold for a record-breaking $963,700 USD via RM Sotheby\u2019s<\/a>, setting a new global benchmark for the most expensive race-worn helmet ever auctioned. The previous record was held by Charles Leclerc<\/a>\u2019s 2023 Monaco Grand Prix helmet, which fetched $352,315 USD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This rare Shoei X-4 helmet \u2014 significantly lighter than the standard version \u2014 was used by Senna during the 1992 Belgian Grand Prix weekend, most famously when he stopped mid-qualifying to assist fellow driver \u00c9rik Comas following a violent crash. The Brazilian champion leapt from his McLaren, cut off Comas\u2019 engine and stabilized his head until medics arrived \u2014 an act widely credited with saving the Frenchman\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finished in Senna\u2019s signature yellow with sponsor logos from Marlboro, Hugo Boss, Shell and Nacional, the helmet features its original KTEL radio system, dark blue Honda visor strip and unique chinbar padding cutout. Backed by a 2025 inspection report and matched with period race photos, the helmet\u2019s provenance and heroic backstory make it a coveted artifact from one of F1\u2019s most revered figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
