De Tomaso Automobili Reveals Production-Spec P72

De Tomaso has officially unveiled the production specification of the P72, a striking homage to 1960s motorsport design and mechanical purity. Inspired by the original 1965 De Tomaso P70 collaboration with Carroll Shelby, the P72 channels the emotional essence of a golden era, revived through modern craftsmanship.

First shown as a concept at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the P72 now arrives in its final form, built on a carbon fibre monocoque formed from a single, uninterrupted weave. Every part of the platform, from its push-rod suspension to its low-mounted powertrain, has been engineered from the ground up to deliver optimal balance and an intuitive, analogue driving experience.

Under the hood lies a hand-assembled 5L supercharged V8 pushing 700 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and exposed metal shift linkage. There are no drive modes, screens, or digital distractions — just raw, responsive connection between driver and machine.

Inside, the cabin embraces tradition with hand-stitched leather, milled aluminium switchgear and bespoke mechanical details. Only 72 examples will be built, each individually commissioned and expected to begin delivery in late 2025.
