BYD’s Yangwang U9 Track Edition Could Deliver Over 3,000 HP

BYD is preparing a track-focused version of its Yangwang U9 supercar that could deliver over 3,000 hp, more than triple the output of the standard model. The current U9 produces 960 kW (1,287 hp), but filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveal the track edition will use four electric motors — one per wheel — each producing around 555 kW (744 hp) for a combined 2,220 kW (3,019 hp).

The filings also note the U9 track edition will feature a squared-off stance with 325/35/20 tires on all four corners, enhanced aerodynamic elements and a gross weight of 2,630 kg (5,798 lbs). While the exterior design remains largely unchanged, the upgrades focus on maximizing track performance. BYD has yet to confirm when, or if, the high-output U9 will enter production, but if it does, it would set a new benchmark for all-electric performance cars.
