Geely reveals official look of Monjaro EM-i, its global flagship D-SUV

Geely is taking one of its best-known Chinese SUVs global — and it’s getting a new name along the way.

Known as the Xingyue L in China, the D-SUV will be sold overseas as the Geely Monjaro EM-i. The Monjaro EM-i is Geely’s first flagship D-SUV for global markets.

Geely has now released the official images of the Monjaro EM-i.

From Xingyue L to Monjaro

The model name Monjaro comes from Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Geely chose the name for its global model as it looks to give the SUV a more distinctive identity.

The Monjaro EM-i will first go on sale in Egypt, followed by other European markets including the UK. Geely is also planning to assemble the SUV at Ford’s plant in Spain in the future.

A more European look

The Monjaro EM-i follows Geely’s “Symphony of Time and Space” design theme, keeping the styling clean rather than relying on too many decorative details.

The SUV uses straight, geometric lines and a more upright body shape, giving it a solid and well-balanced look.

Up front is a large vertical-slat grille paired with slim headlights. The side profile is long and clean, while the rear gets a full-width tail light that keeps the look modern.

GEA Evo platform & electric AWD

The Monjaro EM-i uses Geely’s latest GEA Evo platform, an evolution of the GEA architecture found in models such as the EX5 and Starray EM-i.

It gets a plug-in hybrid powertrain and electric all-wheel drive, combining the range of a petrol engine with the lower running costs of electric driving.

The electric AWD system should also give the SUV extra traction in more demanding road conditions, while the PHEV setup makes it better suited to longer trips.
