Polestar just revealed its newest concept car, and the design feels a bit like rubbing salt in a fresh wound. There’s nothing wrong with the concept—quite the contrary, actually—and that’s the problem, since Polestar won’t be selling cars in the United States after this year.
The reveal shows a low-slung car called the “Formula 2030” concept. Polestar says the car previews the design elements that will make their official debut on the next-generation Polestar 2, which is scheduled to arrive next year. That will be followed by the arrival of the Polestar 7. Of course, neither model will make their way to the United States.
The front-facing image that we have of the Formula 2030 is mostly hidden in shadow, but we can still spot several enticing details. For starters, the concept takes on a low-to-the-ground athletic stance. The front fenders look to hide a wide set of performance tires and work with the recognizable “Dual Blade” headlights to give the concept a menacing look. Zooming in reveals some sort of vertical support in the center of the windshield, though that could be some form of concept-car hijinks, rather than a feature bound for production.
The concept will be revealed to the public in full during an upcoming media first-drive event for the Polestar 4, though VIP customers will have the chance to see it privately before then. As for American fans of the brand, we’ll have to get our passports handy if we ever want to catch a glimpse of the new design for ourselves.
