McLaren Reveals Plans for an 810 HP Hybrid P34 Supercar, an SUV, and a Luxury Brand Overhaul

McLaren is officially drawing up the blueprint for its next era, pivoting its identity from a performance manufacturer to a lifestyle powerhouse. During a recent confidential briefing with its retail network, the British automaker outlined a future product roadmap alongside sweeping changes to its brand aesthetic. Showroom floor transformations represent the most immediate cultural shift. Dealerships are slated for a massive redesign, ditching their current Apple-store-like aesthetic in favor of the opulent ambiance found in luxury fashion stores like Gucci, Louis Vuitton or Burberry. This transformation of retail spaces represents a deliberate strategic pivot to reposition McLaren against high-end lifestyle brands by relying on elite luxury aesthetics rather than just track-day supremacy.

The tip of the spear for this incoming product wave is a highly anticipated mid-engined supercar currently operating under the code-named P34. Expected to arrive next summer, the vehicle will be propelled by a hybridized twin-turbo V-6 powertrain. This setup is similar to the system found in the Artura, effectively moving the brand away from its long-lived V-8 engine. Despite the shift in configuration, the output remains entirely uncompromising. The upcoming P34 will reportedly push out approximately 810 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque. Slated to slot cleanly between the Artura and the 750S in the McLaren vehicle lineup, the hybrid supercar is expected to carry a starting price of around $310,000, deliberately undercutting the MSRP of the 750S.

To match the company’s new lifestyle directive, the P34 aims to deliver serious physical and technological upgrades. The exterior shape of the new supercar will reportedly be longer and more dramatic than the current Artura profile. Inside the cabin, the automaker is leaning heavily into its luxury-focused identity. New leather seats and an array of updated LED screens will outfit the interior of the P34, a direct maneuver to better compete with rival high-end luxury brands. Anticipating strong demand for this modernized package, McLaren reportedly plans to build about 1,000 copies of the supercar during its first year of production alone.

While the P34 represents the immediate future, the automaker’s long-term plans include even more disruptive additions to its catalog. The brand’s pipeline also calls for a “sedan-like” front-engined grand tourer as well as a long-rumored SUV. Redesigning dealerships, the SUV and the grand tourer are all slated to arrive further out in the timeline than the P34. Venturing into these broader, passenger-friendly vehicle segments is a critical move for the brand’s financial longevity. Michael Leiters, a former executive at the company, stated in 2024 that an SUV or a grand tourer would be major keys to future profitability. Naturally, the automaker is keeping its official cards close to the chest. A McLaren spokesperson declined to comment to Road & Track regarding the report, simply stating the brand does not comment on speculation.
