McLaren has officially confirmed the development of its first-ever SUV, slated to arrive as early as 2028. The announcement was made alongside a £500 million GBP (approximately $669 million USD) investment into the brand’s U.K. manufacturing and development infrastructure under its Abu Dhabi ownership.
Speaking on the project, McLaren CEO Nick Collins stated that the upcoming model aims to translate the brand’s Formula 1 success into a practical vehicle for high-net-worth buyers seeking supercar performance combined with daily utility. The expanded operations are expected to create 1,000 new jobs, with development likely anchored at the company’s carbon-fiber facility in Sheffield.
Code-named the P47, the four-door, five-seat vehicle represents a historic departure for the traditional supercar manufacturer. Early details indicate the high-performance SUV will incorporate a hybrid V-8 engine, an all-wheel-drive platform, and 24-inch wheels—marking the largest wheel setup in the marque’s six-decade history.
The McLaren SUV is expected to make its official debut as early as 2028 through McLaren’s global retail network.
